What students can expect

Private Lessons

One-on-one instruction tailored to each student’s pace, goals, and learning style. Students grow in confidence when skills are broken down and mastered, and their hearts are watered with encouragement and love.

All Ages & Levels

Gretel loves working with an array of age levels! Young children, older beginners, and even adults learning the violin and making music for the first time are all part of her studio.

Performance Opportunities

Recitals are given at the end of each semester. Students perform solos, duets, and advanced students perform both parts of the Bach Double Violin Concerto in concert. Students are also encouraged to perform book recitals when a Suzuki book is mastered. High School seniors are encouraged to perform a senior recital, showcasing skills before graduation.

Teaching philosophy

Gretel believes every student can find joy in making music. Lessons blend a solid technical foundation with pieces students love, keeping motivation high while steadily building skill, musicianship, and confidence. She believes anyone can learn, and that fostering a genuine love of music leaves a lasting impact well beyond the lessons themselves.

Kind words

From studio families

Mrs. Grinvalds is an accomplished, classically trained musician. She is also an intuitive and inspiring teacher who communicates with great clarity. Those qualities combined make her an amazing violin mentor and instructor. But above and beyond that is that, at her core, Mrs. Grinvalds cares so very deeply for each individual student as a cherished person. She pours into them, encourages them, challenges them to push through to their next best level, and cheers them on with such a full heart. She embodies the spirit of that rare gift of a person who simultaneously supports from beneath, pulls gently from ahead, and links arms to walk alongside. She has given our daughter a strong foundation these past several years from middle school through high school graduation (and continuing) in what beauty and graciousness look like lived out through both music and relationship.
